Karen came to me wanting a very hip, yet elegant feel to her web site that would be a cut above other salons in the area. I used subtle gradients and contemporary photos, along with a flourish design that complements the logo, to achieve that effect. Karen has received a lot of positive feedback on the usability and visual effectiveness of the site, along with many new clients—the web site has helped increase Karen's business by over 35 percent.
Key words in the page headers provide subliminal association with Karen's products and services. Costs for each of her services are listed on her Services page, so that potential customers know up-front what a hair cut or color will cost them before making an appointment. First-time customers can download a coupon on the Special Offers page.
The rotating testimonials, along with a link to the full testimonials page, enable potential customers to see others' reviews of Karen's services.
I eventually widened the site using the 960 grid system from the original mockup and added a white line to the menu bar to increase sharpness.
