Site | Mockup

This Northwest gardener wanted a bright, colorful site to convey the look and feel of his wild and free gardening style. My idea was to create an open and minimalist site using CSS3 styling and the 960 grid system. The site focuses mainly on his garden photos, a few gardening tips, and a news page, which perhaps could be converted into a blog at a future point.

I took on some new challenges with this site. This was my first attempt using the 960 grid system and I was pleased with the results, particularly the bottom section of the About page where I use flowers and a snail motif to enhance the gardening tips.

I created sprites for the menu tabs, which help avoid background image flicker on hover. The capital "M" of the web-based Amerika Sans font looks like a garden fork, which adds a nice touch.

I made several changes from the original mockup, including creating a flower logo for the header, reducing the size of the banner photo, and adding a gallery page, which uses a jQquery lightbox script to capture the gardener's many photos.

The subtle flowery background gives a nice soft feel to the overall effect of the site.
